I am 22 and work as a personal adviser at Connexions, helping other young people find the right career path and offering advice on education, training, benefits, family and drug or alcohol issues. I recently completed an NVQ level 3 in Advice and Guidance with my employer.
After leaving school I went to college to study NVQ level 1 Business Administration whilst working part time in a supermarket. I went on to do an Apprenticeship with tpm. I found the staff really helpful. My trainer was very supportive and easy to get along with. I learned good communication and customer service skills which have assisted me in my job role. My personal assessor helped me a lot and always gave me the right amount of time to complete each task.
If you're considering going into business administrationand customer services, I'd say - go for it. They're good sectors to get qualified in as most jobs require these skills. I’m really glad I followed this route. My long term goal is to progress to a management position with Connexions. I've learnt that it's important to stay focussed whilst training and remember - if you need support, tpm are always on hand to help.
