I’m 20 years old and employed by Bullen Healthcare which supply specialist healthcare products to the NHS. My job is in marketing support: creating and updating product lists, and collating and distributing customer feedback. I deal with a wide variety of people, and I gain great satisfaction knowing what I do is of value in the healthcare system.
After finishing school, I went to sixth form college to study business and IT but left after one year. A Connexions advisor recommended tpm who found me a position with Bullens on a level two apprenticeship in business administration. Within nine months, Bullens offered me a permanent position and I got a pay rise. Now I'm training towards my level 3 qualification.
My tpm assessor comes to see me regularly at work, helping me plan for assessments, and put what I’m learning into practice. I like being able to work whilst studying. When I first started, I attended tpm for training sessions towards a technical certificate. I developed skills for working in groups and alone: useful skills for the workplace.
My apprenticeship has given me communication skills and confidence for dealing with colleagues and clients, and developed my computer and administration skills. I have learnt to take responsibility for myself and my work, and now have strong organisational skills.
When I finish my level 3 qualification, I want to continue working in marketing and ideally become a personal assistant.
tpm is a professional training company. They are supportive and gave me a real push when I needed it, ensuring I stuck at things and achieved.
My advice to new apprentices is - persevere, make sure you attend regularly. The opportunity to develop work skills comes fast once you get going, and the rewards are worth it. Show you are trying hard – this usually means you get the job!
