Name: Ayesha
Sector: Business Administration

I’m 21 years old and work as Business Administrator at Greater Merseyside Learning Providers Federation (GMLPF). After leaving secondary school I knew I wanted to do an Apprenticeship and got in touch with tpm where I completed NVQ level 2 and 3 in Business Administration. I had originally wanted to work with children but also liked computers and the thought of office work. Ultimately I believed that an NVQ in Business Administration would open more doors for me.

tpm staff were really helpful. I found one-to-one sessions with my assessor particularly useful as they enabled me to have my queries and any concerns responded to directly rather than in a less personal classroom situation. My assessor always took the time to go through things I wasn’t clear about. I really enjoyed getting to work and learn at the same time.

My job at GMLPF involves data entry, typing reports, filing, dealing with phone enquiries, arranging meetings and sub-editing the company newsletter. I really enjoy my responsibilities, especially organising training days and meetings. The transferable skills I gained from my NVQ with tpm have been really useful in my job, that is, getting on with a wide range of people, creativity, attention to detail, setting priorities, working flexibly, time management, word processing and IT skills, project management, communication skills and problem solving.

With my longer term career in mind, I have started a BSc (Hons) in Business Management at Edge Hill University. I always wanted to go to university as no-one in my family has and I decided I wanted to be the smart one! My course modules include accountancy, law for business and personal development. I will specialise in a specific subject towards the end of my degree which I’m sure will open even more doors for me. I’m studying part time for my degree so it will take me four and a half years. Studying part time allows me to continue working as I only have to go to university one day a week.

I believe setting foundations for your career when you are young is the most important thing in life. Don’t wait around... follow your dreams and have fun doing it! It’s also important to choose a training establishment that will support you and encourage you to achieve. tpm have played a key role in my success and I’d like to thank the whole team for helping me get where I am now, with a bright career ahead.
