tpm has worked far and wide across the learning and skills sector over the past few months, acting as a Lead Provider for the LSIS-funded ‘Support for Language, Literacy and Numeracy (SfLLN)’ Programme.
We have supported 5 work-based and offender learning providers to improve the way they deliver learning programmes. We have worked, for example, with the education team at HMP North Sea Camp to embed maths, English and ICT into vocational workshops so that classes taking place in workshop ‘learning pods’ (pictured right) complement and underpin construction training.
In another piece of work for the SfLLN Programme, we worked with a locally-based provider, Scientiam Ltd, to develop new ways of assessing if work-based learners can solve problems using maths, English and ICT. Scientiam’s project team, comprised of staff from all levels and areas of the organisation, also developed new delivery models and approaches and came to visit our centre so we could share ideas and help address each-other’s challenges.
We also helped a work-based learning provider from Wirral, Dawn Hodge Associates, to deliver Key Skills for the first time in 2011. Claire Collins, our lead for the SfLLN Programme, supported the team and delivered staff training. As a result of their work, the vocational assessors feel much more confident about supporting learners to achieve full Apprenticeship Frameworks, including maths and English.
