tpm Apprentices work in the UK's Best Outdoor Learning Environment

Its The Little Things Nursery ChildrenIt’s the Little Things Nursery was recently named as the UK’s Best Outdoor Learning Environment at the Nursery Management Today Awards.

The prestigious award was presented to owners Louise and husband Simon Waller at a ceremony in London. Simon completed all of the garden renovations himself using any natural materials he could find, to keep the costs down. The accolade, ‘Best Outdoor Learning Environment’ was   awarded to Louise and Simon because of the way they use the natural grounds and setting of the nursery as well as the garden areas Simon created.

Its The Little Things Children 2In a brief interview with tpm Assistant Programme Manager Lisa Riley, Louise Waller explained that ‘NMT said they chose us because, the children are actively engaged in building the garden areas and staff visually risk assess and involve the children in the process’. Louise went on to say ‘We consulted the children before making any changes and used their ideas to create an outdoor sandpit, play house, parking for the bikes and cosy areas. We also believe in using real things such as bricks, planks and tree bark etc’.

It’s the Little Things, have already qualified 3 nursery practitioners with tpm to date and currently, Advanced Apprentices Charlotte Eastwood, Katie Hill, Ellie Kelsey and Stacey Critchley are certainly no exception as they form part of an exciting and rewarding commercial enterprise that is both, making an excellent contribution to the community of Maghull and providing many young people with fulfilling careers in the children and young people’s workforce.
