14/11/11
Anti-Bullying Week 2011 takes place from 14-18 November. This year’s theme is ‘Stop and think – words can hurt’ and focuses on tackling verbal bullying.
Words and language can be used to hurt, humiliate or just put people down and make them feel bad. Words can also be used to point out the ways in which someone is different, and make that a bad thing.
People can be bullied for all sorts of reasons from sexuality, gender, race or origin, ability to learn or just the clothes they wear or for no reason at all.
Anti-Bullying Week sends a clear and positive message that bullying is not acceptable in our schools, colleges, workplace and communities. At tpm we take a ‘Zero Tolerance’ stance on bullying and discrimination of all forms and we train all staff and learners about how to stay safe and report any type of bullying or harassment. To find out more about tpm’s work on anti-bullying you can visit our blogs on Bullying and Cyberbullying and Digital Citizenship.
Bullying will only stop if we take action together but we know that significant numbers of children and young people who witness bullying, still don’t tell anyone or take action to stop it. It might also be parents and carers, other adults, schools, colleges, employers and communities who turn a blind eye or don’t take action to STOP bullying.
Make sure you are aware of how to report your concerns about bullying and who to. Tammy Vickery and Brian Quinn are the Safeguarding officers at tpm and are available to listen to any concerns you may have.
