Liverpool Apprentice - Business Grant Initiative

Liverpool Apprentice LogoLiverpool City Council is seeking to grant aid employers/small businesses with a 'one off business grant' payment of £3k.  The business grant is being offered to support employers/small business with the recruitment of new apprentices within their organisations.

You will be expected to recruit Liverpool residents aged 16 and over and offer a 1 year or more apprenticeship vacancy. Liverpool City Council are looking for proposals of any size and are willing to commit a maximum of £300,000 to new apprenticeships vacancies starting on 7th March 2011.

Employers will be expected to work with Liverpool City Council and meet a timetable of recruitment dates which are accessible to download online. We will favour proposals which indicate that the apprentices will continue beyond our funding. Training for Apprentices will be delivered by approved Skills Funding Agency Training Providers

Employers should:

  • Pay apprentices the national rate of pay for their age group
  • Employ apprentices and therefore provide real valuable apprenticeship employment in a supervised work environment
  • Provide support to meet the needs of people with multiple barriers to entry into the job market
  • Advertise vacancies via the Jet Service and the National Apprenticeship Service's Apprenticeship Vacancies website if they need to search for an apprentice.

Liverpool City Council will place greater emphasis on supporting those employers which help fill recognised skills gaps or target potential areas for economic growth in the City's transformational area such as;

    • Superport
    • Low carbon economy/Environmental related work
    • Knowledge economy
    • Visitor economy
