tpm has prioritised e-safety training and awareness for staff and learners as part of the Comany's whole-organisation-approach to e-safety and to developing responsible Digital Citizens.
During June and July all tpm staff have attended a unique internet safety programme entitled 'Thinkuknow', developed by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP). The training was delivered by Brian Quinn, the Director responsible for safeguarding at tpm and a qualified CEOP Ambasador. CEOP was formed in 2006, and delivers a multi-agency service dedicated to tackling the exploitation of children. That means building intelligence around the risks, tracking and bringing offenders to account either directly or with local and international police forces and working with children and parents to deliver training and raise awareness.
Brian Quinn said "staff training is an essential tenent of tpm's approach to safeguarding young people online and staff will now cascade the training to young people and ensure they are given every opportunity to access advice, information and guidance on this agenda....back in March we launched our 'Online Safety Guidelines' for learners and also began our campaign of raising awareness on Cyberbullying. These aspects of our 'managed systems' approach to Online Safety were published and consulted on in our October 2009 Blog on Cyberbullying and more recently our March 2010 Blog about Digital Citizenship.
Similarly, we have recently installed the 'Click CEOP' internet explorer 8 button in all ICT Suites for learners. This button, available as a free download, opens a panel which allows users to report cyberbullying, harmful content and activity of a sexually abusive nature. The button can be downloaded from the CEOP website. We intend to use the distinctive CEOP Report Button in our own website, once approved.
As this training rolls out to our young people they will be effectively armed and empowered to speak about online safety concerns and report abuse.
