World AIDS 2011

This World AIDS Day - 1 December - take action to tackle HIV prejudice and to protect yourself and others from HIV transmission.

Being aware of the facts about HIV and acting on that knowledge to inform your behaviour are vital steps in taking care of your own health and wellbeing, the health and wellbeing of others, and ensuring you treat everyone living with HIV fairly and with understanding.

Many people do not understand all the ways in which HIV is transmitted, how it can be prevented, the reality of living with HIV today, or the fact that the number of people diagnosed with HIV continues to increase in the UK.

Over 100,000 people are living with HIV in the UK, and it is estimated that over a quarter of those people don't know they have the virus. Despite more people than ever before living with HIV in the UK, knowledge about HIV among the general public is low.

tpm support our local agency Sahir House and internationally, Theatre for a Change who offer a wide range of services to individuals and families, living with or affected by HIV on Merseyside and in Africa. At tpm we take health seriously and we believe it is important to ‘know the facts about HIV’. We make sure all young people have the opportunity to become aware about HIV and other sexual health matters and the facts about transmission. See our blog on HIV Awareness.

The red ribbon is an international symbol of HIV Awareness; wear a red ribbon and show your awareness this week and throughout the year.
